The IT infrastructure and the tools used and offered by MCI have a significant environmental footprint. This area also presents one of the biggest opportunities for MCI to significantly improve our waste and energy impacts, our business productivity and client value proposition
Into the cloud
Starting in 2014, our IT department launched a new IT digitisation strategy entitled: “Into the Cloud”. The key goals of the plan are;
- Help MCI talent to embrace digital technology and benefit from a competitive IT environment
- Support the business integration of the MCI Group
- Radically improve our environmental footprint
- Capture value created by the digitisation of our industry
- Protect our clients’ data
In 2014 we will migrate our servers to a Cloud-based infrastructure based on the Google Enterprise platform and the Cap-Gemini Merlin datacentres. We anticipate that the energy usage and the corresponding carbon emissions from our servers will be reduced by over 80%. We are currently calculating the actual footprint
The Google data centres are 50% more efficient than a typical data centre, and currently 34% of the energy they consume is from renewable energy. Teamed with MCI’s renewable energy and offsets commitments, we aim to bring our footprint close to zero in the near future.
In 2015 MCI aims to replace the majority of IT equipment. New machines purchased will be highly efficient and eco-labeled where possible, and IT equipment to be replaced will be recycled.
We will improve our products and services to connect people online rather than face to face, capturing and distributing content, rolling out marketing strategies and reducing our carbon intensity.
We are digital: we will progressively upgrade our applications such as online registration systems, event management tools and abstract management products to improve productivity, reduce paper usage and increase client data security.
